Juniper was displaying mysterious behaviour, or so thought her lover, Douglas Fir. “The course of true love never did run smooth,” Or so he’d heard, from a bird. Or was it a Bard?
Either way, this Love thing was hard.
He saw her whispering with Scots Pine, which was fine, until Tuesday last when… Red Cedar asked if he could meet her for a chat, and he really didn’t know what to think of that. “Juniper Dear, is there a secret to tell?” “Douglas Dear, you know very well, there is not.” Oh, yes perhaps he was just being silly, and maybe a tad bit jelly…
Or, so he thought. “Forgive me Dear, it’s just that you are so popular with the Poplars and adored by the Alder, I let my mind take a wander.” “Well knock it off, Love. You know I only had eyes for you.” “You do? Or you did?” “I did, and I do!” “Oh is it just me, or are you confused too?” She shook her head and smiled, leaving poor Douglas beguiled,
Cupid is a knavish lad.
Thus to make poor females mad.
